Biosketch  

Dr Linda Bester started her career as a research technician at the Agricultural Research Council, Institute for Exotic Diseases in Pretoria. She joined the former University of Durban-Westville’s Biomedical Resource Centre in an ad-hoc position in 1999 and became permanent in April 2000. She was awarded seed funding from the University Competitive Research Grant followed by the NRF Thuthuka Grant and completed her PhD by publication, supervised by Professor Sabiha Essack in 2013.
 
Dr Bester is registered with the South African Veterinary Council. She is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society, the South African Association for Laboratory Animal Sciences (SAALAS) and served as secretary from 2009 to 2014 for the latter.
 
She received the NRF Knowledge Interchange and Collaboration grant in 2008 for an alternative to lab animal toxicity testing course in Zeist, Netherlands; a Technician of the Year Award in 2014 at the 18th Scientific Meeting of the South African Association for Laboratory Animal Sciences (SAALAS) in Bloemfontein; and said she enjoyed working with seasoned researchers and students at the Biomedical Resource Unit.
