School of Laboratory Medicine & Medical Sciences

Mrs Nisha Perumal started working at the former University of Natal in 1980 as the Physiology departmental secretary on the Medical School campus. In those days, she recalls having to use a typewriter to type out handwritten class notes and tests.  ‘As technology evolved, handwritten notes were replaced by WordPerfect and later MS Office files, and the mark book replaced by the Student Management System (SMS),’ she recollects. 

After the merger, Mrs Nisha Perumal moved to the Westville campus and gradually took over the administration of all of the merged Physiology modules. Later she also became PA to the Head of the School of Medical Sciences. After the College model reorganisation, she became the Teaching administration officer on the Westville campus for the School of Laboratory Medicine and Medical Sciences and runs the School Satellite Office on Westville campus. Her duties now include administration of all Bachelor of Medical Science (Physiology) modules and co-ordinating SAMIS and TWF duties for the School.
