Pathologist, Professor Raveen Parboosing of the Discipline of Virology in the School of Laboratory Medicine and Medical Sciences, has been appointed Associate Professor.
‘I am passionate about discovering innovative ways to treat viral infections,’ said Parboosing. ‘My aim is to use my appointment to facilitate and strengthen research collaborations, locally and internationally and to increase the research productivity of this Discipline.’ His research interests lie in Clinical Virology, Viral Epidemiology, HIV drug discovery and Nanotechnology.
He expressed his thanks to the staff, students and leadership of the Department of Virology, especially Dr Pravi Moodley, and the current HOD, Dr Nokukhanya Msomi.
Parboosing holds an MBChB (University of Natal), FC Path (SA) Clinical Virology (CMSA), Ordinary Certificate in Statistics (with distinction) – Royal Statistical Society (United Kingdom), MMed (Virology) – UKZN, Master of Science (Epidemiology) – Columbia University and PhD (UKZN).
He joined the UKZN Registrar programme in 1999 and has lectured at the University for more than 20 years.
Parboosing enjoys reading medical fiction and spending time with his daughter Aryana and wife, Dr Nerisha Tathiah, who is a Public Health Medicine Specialist.
